This year, MassMutual celebrates 175 years of helping people protect their families, support their communities, and keep their promises through generations of change. As a General Agency of MassMutual, WestPoint Financial Group is proud to be backed by a mutually owned company built on trust, integrity, leadership, and a long-term commitment to serving others. This milestone is not only a celebration of history, but also of the people and families whose lives and careers continue to shape that legacy every day.

Few stories reflect that legacy more personally than that of Brian Woolman.

Growing up with a father in the financial services industry, Brian always imagined that one day he might join his father Gary Woolman’s practice. At the same time, he wanted to create his own path and build something meaningful for himself. After graduating from Indiana University–Bloomington, Brian accepted a position in Orlando, Florida, where he gained experience in the corporate world during the aftermath of the 2009 financial crisis. That period proved transformative, giving him firsthand perspective on the importance of sound financial guidance and the impact advisors can have during times of uncertainty.

Brian eventually joined WestPoint as a staff member supporting the investment side of his father’s business. Those early years gave him a deep understanding of the advisor-client relationship and the long-term value of thoughtful financial planning. Through joint meetings with clients, he witnessed the success families achieved over decades by following trusted guidance and disciplined strategies.

"As a second-generation advisor, I have had unique privileges that few in our field enjoy.

One of my favorite moments working with my father is seeing him light up when my kids visit the office. It reminds me of my childhood when my sister and I would spend time at Dad’s office"

What began with childhood visits to the office and early filing responsibilities evolved into something much more meaningful: mentorship, shared purpose, and a multigenerational appreciation for the profession. Brian credits those experiences with shaping not only his career, but also his understanding of why the work matters.

“It wasn’t just theoretical,” Brian said of the lessons he learned observing his father’s clients over the years. “These strategies provided real value in the lives of families we served.”

Today, Brian finds himself experiencing that same legacy from a new perspective as a father. Recently, his seven-year-old son told him he wants to become an advisor someday “so he can see me every day like I get to with my dad.” For Brian, the moment represented something larger than career succession. It reflected the values of family, trust, and connection that have defined the Woolman family’s experience within the financiaservices profession for generations.

“I’ve been blessed not only to have Gary Woolman as my father, but getting these additional 15-plus years with him as a mentor has been especially meaningful,” Brian shared. “It’s an experience I will cherish as long as I walk this earth.”

At WestPoint, stories like Brian’s represent the foundation of who we are. His journey reflects the leadership, mentorship, and commitment to service that continue to shape our culture and strengthen the legacy we are building together. As we celebrate MassMutual’s 175th anniversary, we are proud to recognize advisors like Brian who carry forward generations of trust while helping WestPoint continue to evolve, grow, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of the clients and communities we serve.
